Terms

These are the terms you agree to by using Solis or by buying a founding membership. They are written to be read rather than skipped, and the two that matter most are the one about alarms and the one about health.

Who you are agreeing with

Solis is run by Solis Morning Co. LLC in Arizona, United States. "We" and "us" mean that. "Solis" means the iPhone app, the website at getsolis.co, and anything else we put under that name.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Solis, to join the waitlist or to buy a founding membership. By doing any of those things you confirm that you are.

The alarm is not a guarantee

This is the most important thing on this page. Solis is built to make waking up hard to avoid, and a great deal of work has gone into that. It is still software running on a phone you control, and it can fail to wake you.

It will not wake you if, among other things:

  • your phone is off, out of battery, or has been restarted and not unlocked
  • you denied or later withdrew the permissions the alarm needs
  • iOS stops the app, changes how alarms work, or restricts them in a future version
  • the volume is down past where the app can raise it, or headphones are routing the sound elsewhere
  • the phone is in a state we did not anticipate, or there is simply a bug

Do not use Solis as the only thing standing between you and something that matters. If missing a morning has real consequences — a flight, an exam, a shift — set a second alarm on a different device. We are not liable for anything that follows from an alarm that did not ring.

Solis is not health advice

Solis is a habit and alarm app. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and nothing in it is medical advice.

We cite published research about snoozing and about phone use after waking. Those studies describe associations across groups of people. They do not predict what will happen to you, and we are careful to say "linked to" rather than "causes" for that reason. If you are worried about your sleep or your mood, speak to a doctor rather than to an alarm clock.

The founding membership

A founding membership costs $49, once, and is bought through Stripe on this website. It is limited to 100 people. What it gets you:

  • Access to Solis without a subscription, for as long as we run Solis.
  • Early access through TestFlight, Apple's beta programme, before the public release.
  • An invitation to the private Discord.
  • A full refund at any time before launch, as set out in the refund policy.

Two honest qualifications. "Lifetime" means the life of the service, not your life: if we ever have to shut Solis down, access ends with it, and we would tell founding members first. And any date we give for TestFlight or for launch is a target rather than a promise — we are one person building this, and software slips. If it slips further than you are willing to wait, the refund stands.

A founding membership is for you. It is not transferable or resellable, and we may end it without a refund if it is used to abuse the service or other people in the Discord.

Subscriptions, once they exist

When Solis launches on the App Store it will be sold as a subscription, with the price and any free trial shown before you buy. Those subscriptions are sold by Apple, not by us. That means:

  • Apple takes the payment and holds your billing details.
  • The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it.
  • You cancel in Settings on your iPhone, not in Solis. Cancel at least a day before it renews, or that period is charged.
  • Refunds for subscriptions are requested from Apple, not from us. We cannot issue them.

Apple's own terms apply to anything bought through the App Store, alongside these.

What you may not do

  • Copy, resell or redistribute Solis, or try to extract its source.
  • Work around the paywall, or share access with people who have not paid for it.
  • Attack, overload or probe the servers behind the community totals, or send them made-up numbers.
  • Use Solis to break the law, or to harass anyone in the Discord.

What belongs to whom

Solis, its name, its logo, its design and its code belong to us. Your mornings, your streak and anything you make with the app belong to you. Sharing a card you made from Solis is the point of it; you need no permission from us to post one anywhere you like.

The legal part

Solis is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose, and to the fullest extent the law allows we exclude the warranties that would otherwise be implied.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything connected with Solis is limited to the amount you have actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including anything that follows from a missed alarm or from data that did not sync, because nothing syncs.

Some places do not allow those exclusions. Where that is true, they do not apply to you and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected by anything on this page.

Changes, ending, and which law applies

We may change these terms. If a change matters, the date at the top changes and anyone on the mailing list is told. Carrying on using Solis after that is how you accept the new version; if you do not want to, stop using it, and if you are a founding member within the refund window, ask for your money back.

You can stop using Solis at any time by deleting it. These terms are governed by the law of Arizona, United States, and the courts there are where any dispute is settled, unless the law where you live gives you the right to use your own.

See also the privacy policy and the refund policy, which form part of these terms. Anything unclear, write to sam@getsolis.co.
